Political Reforms in the Arab World
Faten Aggad
In this paper, Faten Aggad explores the political scene in Egypt, with specific focus on the democratisation process in the country, via the experimental introduction of political and state reforms. The author presents this case-study within the broader context of the democratisation cause in the Arab and Muslim worlds and provides a balanced assessment of Egypt’s progress in this regard t date. Aggad makes use of qualitative analysis and a variety of informed direct sources, based on her extensive fieldwork research in the country. The paper is systematically organised and comprehensive in its coverage of indicators and measurement instruments of good governance in Egypt, following the implementation of reforms, such as the Amendment of Article 76 in the Egyptian Constitution.
