Geographic Information Systems & Cartography

The unit prides itself with the state of the art GIS hardware and Software. The sections heavily utilize software such as Arc GIS 9.3, Erdas Imagine (Remote Sensing).Its hardware components include: Advanced GPS, Hp T1100 Plotter, High speed processing machines, and iMAC A1207.
Services

  • Research Support: The sections provide spatial information & analysis of socio-economic issues. The GIS system supports forecasting, risk analysis and business intelligence on African countries and regions.
  • Database Development: The unit is in a process of building a fundamental geo-spatial database for Africa. This is complemented with web development for various research themes undertaken by the institute.
  • Spatial Analysis, Statistical Analysis & Modeling: The unit undertakes independent spatial analysis, modeling and simulation utilizing geospatial techniques. The unit has highly qualified & experienced personal in running projects of this nature.
  • Poster Design & Printing: Our team can design and print for you good quality posters of A0, A1 or A3 Size.

The section prides itself with a collection of maps about Africa estimated 5 000. This section is able to develop any kind of map e.g. tourist maps, history maps, and any other customized maps on request at a cost.
