The Africa Institute of South Africa, a statutory research organization based in Pretoria, invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for a position in the Research Division. Applications from candidates in the affirmative action categories are particularly encouraged:

 

Executive Director: Research

Salary: R738 000 - R 784 000 per annum

(All inclusive) (Five year renewable performance based contract)

    

  Requirements:

  • A PhD in Social Sciences with extensive record of sole or first authored peer-reviewed publications and at least 10-15 years’ experience at senior level in a research organization or university/NGO environment,
  • Strong management skills; especially in project management,
  • High-level research skills necessary to provide leadership to AISA’s team of researchers in fulfilling AISA’s statutory mandate,
  • A strategic thinker and planner; someone with vision; drive; total integrity and a commitment to advancing the welfare and interests of Africans through knowledge and to build AISA as a premier research organization,
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills, and ability to work in a team are essential; as is the ability to work under pressure and to firm deadlines,
  • Networking experience; lobby/advocacy and knowledge of the national and international fund-raising environment will be an advantage,
  • Knowledge of PFMA and Treasury Regulations.

 

      Duties:

  • Play a leading role in the development of a long-term research programme for AISA and in designing research goals and strategies for the organization,
  • Co-ordinate the organisation’s research development activities with research colleagues and stakeholders,
  • Research-related planning and budgeting, ensure compliance with AISA’s statutory mandate and delivery of high quality research results and policy reports,
  • Promote co-operation with AISA’s stakeholder community, manage AISA’s research team and ongoing monitoring of compliance with AISA’s Business Plan deliverables,
  • Involvement in the development of younger researchers, report to the CEO in respect of all duties and responsibilities.
