AISA Visiting Fellowships Program

The Purpose of the Program

One of the elements that will contribute towards developing and sustaining Africa’s cutting edge research is capacity building and mentoring project. In this relation, the purpose of AISA’s Visiting Fellowships Program is to encourage Africa’s prominent scholars to make themselves available and thus spent some of their valuable time at an institute such as AISA, with the aim of imparting knowledge and research skills crucial to Africa’s sustainable development.

Duration

Each year the AISA Visiting Fellowships Program will award two Visiting Fellowships, running from two to four weeks, depending on the availability of the invited Fellow.

Eligibility

Recommended candidate should be a prominent non-South African scholar who wishes to conduct research and writing at AISA for a limited period.

Expectations

During the two or four weeks stay at AISA the Visiting Fellow will be expected to conduct a seminar with the assistance of the hosting institute and also write a monograph. As a mechanism to encourage and nurture scholarship among emerging African scholars the Fellow will also be expected to make himself or herself available for consultations. In addition, during the tenure Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in the many events at AISA, and to interact with staff and other fellows from around the world.

Financial Arrangements

AISA will provide basic working and residential accommodation, a return air travel and reasonable subsistence.

Applications

Invitations will be extended to the Fellow who is recommended by a senior researcher at AISA with the agreement of that person and the approval of the CEO. Nomination Forms can be collected from the office of The Manager: Outreach and International Liaison.
