AISA Distinguished Scholar Fellowship Program

The Purpose of the Program

The AISA Distinguished Scholar Fellowship Program’s objective is to draw on the expertise and advice of more senior South African scholars, some of whom maybe officially in career retirement, but who remain actively engaged at both the intellectual and practical levels in research areas which are relevant to AISA's interests.

Duration

The Distinguished Scholar will be appointed by AISA for the period of two years in an honorary capacity.

Eligibility

AISA seeks South African scholars of high accomplishment and prominence whose work and presence will contribute creatively to the development of its research areas. Recommended candidate must be in possession of a PhD and have to his or her credit research work carried out over several years, convincingly documented by publications in internationally recognized academic journals.

Expectations

For the duration of his or her tenure at AISA the Distinguished Scholar will serve to enhance AISA’s public profile. In addition, the Scholar will be invited to contribute a manuscript in one form or another for publication by AISA and will also, on a voluntary basis, be invited to contribute to other AISA's activities, for example, serving as reviewers of AISA manuscripts; delivering academic papers at AISA events; advising on strategic planning; and in general, when needed, serving as resource persons for the organization.

Applications

Invitation will be extended to the candidate who is recommended by a senior researcher at AISA with the agreement of that person, and subject to the approval of the CEO. Nomination Forms can be collected from the office of The Manager: Outreach and International Liaison.

Enquiries and applications should be addressed to:
