School Outreach Project
The library and documentation service (LDS) has been disseminating information on Africa affairs to schools since the year 2005. This was informed by the mandate of the institute as stipulated in the AISA Act (no 68 of 2001). The LDS was previously visiting schools individually, meeting teacher librarians and presenting in events hosted by other different organizations. The LDS has decided on a paradigm shift, whereby school will converge at one central point for one session.
This initiative contributes positively towards the mandate of the institute, because it creates awareness of African affairs to the learners. The image of the institute is also promoted in remote areas. AISA through the LDS enhances development of learners with regard to African issues. Materials such as Maps and other books serve as good teaching aids for the teachers. This might eventually influence the decision makers in the education arena to include them in schools collections. Then AISA’s revenue will increase.
