On 29 March 2011, the Library and Documentation Services (LDS) division, in its capacity as a member of the South Africa Records Management Forum (SARMAF) invited record managers from various organisations to share information on the storage of inventories for future reference. Ms Matshediso Dlamini from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) presented a paper on The importance of record management in an organisation. Her paper focused on what documents to keep, where to keep them and for how long. These are the factors that determine whether documents are available when needed. Having the right documents in the right place at the right time also helps control costs and reduces the risk of losing information. Mr Paul Mullon’s (Director of COR Concepts) presentation was on Taking a preventive approach towards records management and ensuring compliance across different locations. His paper sought to explain to the reader the importance of keeping information safe in a work place and encouraged people to comply with the policies of record management within their respective organisations.
