The Africa Expo is a joint project between AISA and Enov8 New Media. The project will bring together the diplomatic, business and academic communities in celebration of Africa’s cultural and historical diversity. Furthermore, it will provide a platform for trade, investment and tourism interaction in pursuit of continental development and integration. In the immediate short term, it is essential that a number of initiatives be finalised in order to make the event viable. Sponsorships, diplomatic involvement, stall sales and media partners are needed in order for the event to succeed. Briefings were provided to African Heads of Mission twice during the monthly meetings at the Libyan Embassy in Tshwane in July and September 2010. Furthermore, AISA organised a launch dinner for the Africa Expo in November 2010. Ambassador Mohammed of Egypt spoke in support of the project on behalf of African diplomats at the event, which was attended by 11 African missions, civil society and the media. Mr Vika Mazwi Khumalo, South African Consular General to Shanghai, China, briefed the audience on the Shanghai 2010 Expo, and South Africa and Africa’s participation in the event. The Africa Expo learnt many lessons from this and will apply these to our event which is much smaller than the 70 million plus audience of the Shanghai event. The Africa Expo is planned for Africa Day, 25 May 2011.
