On 19 October 2010, AISA embarked on a programme in which it shared its researchers’ experiences of conducting research and the implications thereof with those universities with which it collaborates. AISA research is premised on African affairs and synthesises the outcomes into policy documents that inform policy formulation and the decision-making processes of, among others, the Government of the Republic of South Africa, Africa’s multilateral Institutions, and the continent’s strategic partners. Overall, the research work seeks to meet three strategic objectives, namely to:
- promote knowledge and understanding of African issues through leading social scientists acting in concert and across disciplines to produce cutting-edge knowledge;
- increase the international profile of AISA; and
- Support the National System of Innovation objectives through contributing to the training of researchers in African affairs, drawing from disadvantaged groups. It is on the basis of this that AISA engages with universities, with a view to increase the knowledge of upcoming researchers (postgraduate students) in matters related to the application of research.
